ABOUT SaMANTHA
she/they | born in Havanna 2002 - based in Berlin
Since an early age they have shown a strong passion for various art forms like music, dance, film, theater, literature, painting, and handcrafts. This passion is what led them to choose the artist name "samantharte".
Their artistic journey began with acting in various settings from theater to student films. Their passion for directing and producing sparked when they wrote and directed their own short film, prompting them to pursue a career in the film industry.
Sam's residency in multiple countries like Cuba, Spain, Portugal, Ecuador, and Germany have granted them cross cultural awareness. She possesses fluency in Spanish, English, German, and Portuguese, along with confidence in Galician. This international perspective equips Sam with adaptability, an open mind, and a rich wellspring of inspiration.
Sam's filmmaking embodies a vibrant fusion of retro futurism, Afrofuturism, and vintage Caribbean island life, blending humor, darkness, and surrealism to tackle serious topics with whimsical flair, drawing inspiration from visionaries like Cheryl Dunye, Justin Simien, Spike Lee and Sara Gómez.
Focusing their work on offering inclusive representation for marginalized communities both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, Sam strongly believes in amplifying the voices of those sidelined by society.
By dismantling stereotypes and avoiding the exploitation of trauma for profit, She advocates for a more diverse, decolonized approach to narrative creation by highlighting the power of intersectional storytelling and representation.
Their ultimate goal is to foster empathy between generations and promote the normalization of decolonized diversity.
